Subsonica is an Italian Rock band that was formed in 1996. Their eponymous debut album debuted in the spring of 1997. The band gained real success in 2000 by playing the Sanremo Music Festival. The first two singles from the album Microchip emozionale, “Tutti i miei sbagli” (“All my mistakes”) and “Discolabirinto” (“Disco Labyrinth”) were hits.

Their latest studio album, L’Eclissi was released in 2007.

Members of the band include Davide “Boosta” Di Leo, Enrico “Ninja” Matta, Luca “Bass Vicio” Vicini, Massimiliano “C. Max” Casacci, and
Samuel Umberto Romano.

Charice Pempengco-Philippines

Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco (born May 10, 1992), better known as Charice, is a Filipina singer who rose to popularity through You Tube. Dubbed by Oprah Winfrey as the Most Talented Girl in the World, she is the first solo Asian artist in history to land in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart. Crossing over to acting, she has appeared on the TV series Glee where she plays a recurring character named Sunshine Corazon.

She was born in Laguna, Philippines. Being raised by a single mother is hard on a family so she helped support the family by doing singing contests at age seven. Rumor has it that she is said to have joined almost a hundred singing contests!!!!

In 2005, Charice joined Little Big Star, a talent show in the Philippines loosely patterned after American Idol. Eliminated after her first performance, she was later called back as a wild-card contender and eventually became a finalist. Although she was a consistent top scorer in the final rounds, she only finished in third place based on text voting.

Afterwards she made minor appearances on local television shows and commercials, but essentially had fallen off the radar after her stint at Little Big Star. It was not until 2007 that she gained worldwide fame after an addicted supporter started posting her performance videos on You Tube under the user-name False Voice. These videos received millions of hits making Pempengco an internet phenomenon.

Enrique Iglesias-Spain

If you are a Jersey Shore fan chances are you know who Enrique Iglesias is.

His full name is Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler  and was born May 8, 1975 in Madrid, Spain. He is a Spanish pop music singer-songwriter who is very popular worldwide.

He is the youngest child out of three. Parents are singer Julio Iglesias and socialite and magazine journalist Isabel Preysler. The following year after their parents divorce in 1978 Julio moved to Miami, Florida, in the U.S. to continue with his musical career.

In 1985, Enrique Iglesias’ grandfather, Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga was kidnapped by the terrorist group ETA. For their safety, Enrique and his brother Julio Iglesias Jr. were sent to live with their father in Miami. He also lived in Belgrade, Serbia, for one year with his mother, who worked as a journalist. As his father’s career kept him on the road, the young Iglesias was raised by the family nanny. He attended Gulliver Preparatory School and went on to study business at the University of Miami.

Iglesias did not want his father to know about his plans for a musical career and did not want his famous surname to help advance his career. He borrowed money from his family nanny and he recorded a demo cassette tape which consisted of a Spanish song and two English songs. Approaching his father’s former publicist, Fernan Martinez, the two promoted the songs under the stage name ‘Enrique Martinez’ with the back story of being an unknown singer from Guatemala. Iglesias was signed by a record label called Fonovisa. After dropping out of college, he went to Toronto to record his first album.

Paramore-USA

This post request comes from my friend and Im pretty sure this is her favorite band. Hope you like it Bri.

This band is made up of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, lead guitarist Josh Farro, bassist Jeremy Davis, drummer Zac Farro, and rhythm guitarist Taylor York.

Did you know that Josh and Zac are Hayleys brothers? Yeah, she moved from her home town , Meridian, Mississippi,  to Franklin, Tennessee to meet them. She ended up being enrolled into a private school and forming a funk band called The Factory.

Starting vocal lesson  as soon as she got there probably helped in forming Paramore a little bit.

Williams was originally signed to Atlantic Records as a solo artist in 2003.The original plan of the label was to turn her into a pop singer, but Williams resisted, saying that she wanted to play alternative rock music and wanted a band behind her.Paramore were originally supposed to come out on Atlantic Records but the label’s marketing department decided it would be better for the image of the band to not have them attached to a major label. They instead released their music through a cooler niche label in Fueled by Ramen and they were right.

The Veronicas-Australia

A Electro-pop/pop-rock band might sound like it wouldn’t be anything good to listen to right? In most cases yes but The Veronicas do the genre justice. Made up of twin sisters, Jessica and Lisa Origliasso formed the band in 1999 in Brisbane.

Sido-Germany

I was introduced to this guy by a German foreign exchange student that I was friends with a few years back. Yeah I didn’t exactly know what this Sido character was saying but you can just tell by the way he raps that he has talent.

Lets learn more about Sido, starting with his real name which is Paul Hartmut Würdig. Although he was born in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg he and his younger sister were raised by his mother in Märkisches Viertel, a high-rise residential area in the Reinickendorf borough of Berlin. He went to Bettina-von-Arnim-Oberschule there.

Paul got his carrer started in 1997 as a member of the underground duo Royal TS (now know as A.i.d.S), along side his best friend B-Tight.  Several demo tapes later they drew attention and the Berlin label Royal Bunker signed them a record deal. Sido’s popularity grew through his appearance on many samplers. His first solo album, Maske was released in 2004 and was #3 in the German charts. His single “Mein Block” reached the Top Ten.

Muse-England

For all those Twilight fans out there who think they love this band because a few of their songs were in the movies….okay I’m just gunna stop right there or else I will be caught up ranting. (Even tho thats something I enjoy doing :D)

MUSE is made up of 1)Matthew Bellamy – lead vocals, guitars, piano, keyboards, keytar. 2)Christopher Wolstenholme – bass, backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, harmonica.  and 3) Dominic Howard – drums, percussion, synthesizers, backing vocals, sampling.

So what can I say about MUSE other than I wish I would a been in NYC for their first US appearance on the MTV Movie Awards a few years back. I’m sure that was a blast for all those english rock band fans who got to go.

I bet you didnt know that all these guys went to the same college. They were all in a band too, but not together! Muse eventually got started when they all formed into one band. Talent always has a way of finding other talent.

They got their big break from a family friend who got them in the studio to record a few good EPs but their recording contract didn’t happen until December 24, 1998 when they signed with Maverick Records on a business trip to the US. I’m sure that was a very Happy Christmas that year.

H.I.M (His Infernal Majesty)-Findland

I got a request to write about this band from my boyfriend when I told him about my school assignment to keep a blog. Its his favorite so I better do a good job huh? lol

This group is made up of five guys. vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko Lindström, and bassist Mikko Paananen and drummers Juha Tarvonen and Juippi.

HIM stands for “His Infernal Majesty. Yeah so I was wondering why they called it that too so I did some investigating. Turns out their first band name was His Infernal Majesty. The band changed the name to HIM from the “Wicked Game” single onwards. Their second major US release, Razorblade Romance, was released under the name HER because a Chicago based post-rock band named HiM held the trademark on the name. While they toured Europe they used the name HIM and HER. HIM eventually bought the rights to the name “HIM” in the United States and used it worldwide from there on. HIM has also had other names like Black Salem and Thulsa Doom (in 2000-2002), when as stated above the band had problems with the name in the U.S. Those names have been used in several gigs, mostly in Finland, HIM’s native country.

All rite so since I am in charge of this blog Im going to start of with one of my favorite Japanese bands, Do As Infinity.

The band is made up of only two people, Tomiko Van (vocalist) and Ryo Owatari (guitarist). They have gotten alot of fan base worldwide due to their songs being in Japanese television shows, movies, video games, and anime.
